FAQs About  Grayscale Charts

A benchtop spectrophotometer is not universally better—it outperforms portable units in precision and lab testing, while portable models win for on-site flexibility. Which one is better depends entirely on your testing scenarios, accuracy requirements and workflow.

Benchtop Spectrophotometer Advantages

  • Higher measurement accuracy & repeatability, excellent inter-instrument agreement

  • Supports full-spectrum analysis, more geometric optical designs

  • Larger testing aperture, compatible with curved, textured and bulk samples

  • Ideal for laboratory QC, R&D, formula matching and standard color calibration

  • Stable performance, less affected by external light and environment

Portable Spectrophotometer Advantages

  • Compact, lightweight, test anywhere anytime (production line, warehouse, on-site inspection)

  • Fast one-click measurement, no fixed power and lab space required

  • Perfect for incoming material inspection, on-line production spot check, field color comparison

  • Lower cost and easier to operate for frontline workers

Which One Should You Choose?

Choose benchtop if you need:

Lab R&D, high-precision color grading, standard sample database establishment, strict quality control for cosmetics, plastics, textiles and food.

Choose portable if you need:

On-site rapid detection, production line mobile sampling, outdoor and on-location color measurement.

Light should be projected through the sample to measure haze, then assess the scattered light with an integrating sphere and sensors.  The haze percentage is ascertained by the scattering light to the total transmitted light.

To answer this question, you first need to clarify your specific needs:

  • Is it for simple color quality control (QC)?

  • To coordinate with supply chain color management?

  • To monitor on-line color stability?

  • Do you require computer color matching or production color correction?

  • What is your budget?

  • Systematic supervision and evaluation of color performance in dyed products?

If you aren’t fully clear about your requirements at the initial stage, our color management engineers are ready to communicate with you. We will recommend solutions tailored to your needs. When conditions permit, we can provide prototype demonstrations and trial testing to ensure the instrument meets your practical application requirements.

Yes, we offer free samples for test, you are welcome to order samples to experience our excellent quality and service.

For premier ink quality control (CMYK, spot colors, printing density, formulation & press-side QC), these 3nh spectrophotometers / spectrodensitometers stand above the rest:

1. YD5050 / YD5010 (Best for Printing & Ink Press QC)

  • 45/0 ring illumination, ISO 5-4 / ISO 13655 (M0/M1/M2/M3)

  • Measures density (Status T/E/A/I), dot gain, trap, print contrast

  • ΔE*ab ≤ 0.03, density ≤ 0.01D

  • Small apertures (Φ2/4/8mm) for fine print & ink dots

  • Ideal: packaging, label, gravure, flexo, CMYK/spot color control

    YD5050

2. TS8560 Benchtop (Lab Formulation & Highest Accuracy)

  • d/8° sphere, SCI/SCE, UV control

  • ΔE*ab ≤ 0.01 (repeatability), IIA ≤ 0.1

  • Multi-apertures (Φ3/8/15/25mm)

  • Best for: R&D, ink formulation, batch consistency, fluorescent inks

    TS8560_Benchtop_colorimeter

3. TS7700 Portable (Production & Field Matching)

  • d/8° (SCI/SCE), ΔE*ab ≤ 0.02

  • Fast, handheld, large Φ20mm aperture

  • Best for: press-side checks, warehouse incoming ink, on-site matching

    TS7700_Portable_colorimeter
